Martin Buskin, the late education editor of Newsday and adjunct professor of journalism at Stony Brook University, was an inspiration to a generation of students and practitioners of journalism. These activities are carried out in his memory.

The Martin Buskin Awards for Campus Journalism

The Buskin Awards are presented annually to student journalists whose work demonstrates a commitment to excellence, leadership in campus journalism or impact on the campus community. The awards, sponsored by Newsday, include a cash prize presented at the annual Undergraduate Recognition Awards Ceremony and a place of honor on the Buskin Award plaque, located in the School of Journalism. The categories are writing, editing, photography, editorial cartoons and broadcast.

The Buskin How-To Section

This How-To Section is a collection of instructional materials designed to help student journalists do their jobs in the campus media. The primers are written by Stony Brook alumni and other professionals affiliated with the campus.

The Buskin Committee for Campus Journalism

The goal of the Buskin Committee is to foster excellence in journalism at Stony Brook. The committee has conducted seminars, conferences and workshops on issues of importance to student journalists, including access to information on campus, covering sports, using technology, landing a job or an internship. The committee's priorities include offering meaningful information in settings that can best assist Stony Brook's student journalists.
